I just got my order of Allied's carpathian brace wood at their sale prices. I
am impressed! Terrific wood, straight grained and LIGHT. I am so
satisfied I just placed another order while it is on sale. If you need brace
material now is the time to get it! It is really nice!!!

As a beginner, how many pieces would I have to order for 1 guitar (top and back) assuming I maximize the use of each piece? I suppose I could do th emath and figure it out but hey, i am feeling lazy tonight

Thanks in advance

I assume they are split so you just have to cut them up? Or do you split what they give you?

Hi Sylvan, Yes I agree that the Carp brace wood is excellent.

it works really nicely, and is lighter than red spruce

i am just about finished with my first guitar using this top and brace wood together.

Hi all,
Anyone done any flex testing or other comparison? I hear the lighter than Addy comment.

I currently have need for at least 3 tops, 4 necks, & bracewood.

I'd like to buy now, but should I wait till ASIA?

The point of buying it now is very simple-it is ON SALE - 1/2 off if you
buy at least $100 worth. Well worth the savings. Or you can wait and buy
at ASIA at full price!

Sylvan, are you using Carpathian bracing with Carpathian tops? I am stocked up with Sitka tops. Any problem mixing the two types of spruce? TIA.

I have Carpathian bracewood for $8 per piece, 1.5 X 1.5 X 21, but I'm running a special for OLF members. Each piece is $6 per member. Email me if you have any questions.

Thanks,
Steve

Don: I have mixed Sitka and Carpathian without any problems.

Don -
I have never had any problems mixing brace wood with the top wood (Red
spruce top/sitka bracing; sitka top/carpathian bracing. I am always
looking to make the finished top as light as possible - lighter braces and
a rosewood bridge makes a much lighter and more responsive top!

Everyone ought to know. I placed a second order for bracewood as I
spoke about above in this thread. Today Brian at Allied informed me that
the $8.00 + change for shipping for the first order would now be doubled
or $16 + change. Exact same order-exact same stuff! Needless to say
that was upsetting since it has been less than two weeks since the last
order. So, I cancelled. Good luck if you place an order! This really suprises
me since Allied and Todd Taggart have never been like that. I guess
things change......Sylvan38481.5852314815

Just got an e-mail from Todd and he has made it right! Just a
misunderstanding; Allied is still a great company to do business with!!!

It really seems to me that both Allied, LMI and stewmac go above and beyond the call to make it right whenever we finicky fickled builders are unhappy - I think that’s an testament to there having been in our shoes prior to where they currently are- same with all the sponsors here at the OLF, just simply a great bunch to do business with.

and... let's call a duck a duck. They all hate to see any negative press on these boards.

Allied, StewMac, and LMI have all treated me great (better than great, actually). I have nothing but postive comments about any of them, but I suspect that this forum (and others) have some power to influence policy at the big lutherie houses.

Yea and you (and I) would hate to see negative stuff posted about our guitars, especially if we didn't have a chance to make it right. Even if the person recanted, the damage could be done. I remember someone (was it sylvan then too?) posting all over the place about a Grizzly problem, but it turns out they ended up fixing the problem.

My point is, before you/we go and slam someone, maybe we should give them some time so they have a chance to make it right. These boards should not be used as a weapon for a personal agenda or to try to force a company into treating us right.

I personnally look for long term relationships with suppliers. You will find that like with most relationships, "spats" can be (and should be) handled without bringing everyone in the neighborhood into it.

hmmm... did you think I intended my comments negatively? I didn't.

My point simply was if they see people raising a ruckus about things they don't like it may be a catylst for them to rethink certain policy decisions. I agree that "spats" (i.e. disagreements) should be handled privately, but I think as long as ** policy ** items (in this case shipping costs) are discussed fairly and as accurately as possible I don't think there is any serious problem with that. Why is that so terrible?

That knife cuts both ways -- positively and negatively. Look at the boose Allied must have got in reference to their "opportunity grade" rosewood. Everyone thought it was a great deal and said so. Now they are sold out of it... so all in all a good experience for them.

Not that anyone should use the forum as a weapon .... I completely agree with you about that.

Sorry if my comments were interpreted that way.
